Two characters beloved by fans of the Outlander literary saga are undoubtedly Denzell and Rachel Hunter – siblings, doctor and nurse, Quakers, who the Frasers will meet during the American Revolution – more precisely near Ticonderoga. Well with the first photos coming in from the set of Outlander Season 7, and as we at Survived The Shows teased a couple days ago, Joey Phillips and Izzy Meikle-Small will be playing our Denzell and Rachel Hunter!
Joey Phillips – Denzell Hunter
Taking a look through the Instagram followings of some of the cast members, we found Joey Phillips. A British actor in his early thirties who has already taken part in several British TV series and films, whose figure seems to match the one glimpsed in the shots published by the Glasgow Times yesterday: a soft but serious face, with a good bearing, typical of a doctor. Will he therefore be our Denzell Hunter? Yes, he will!
Izzy Meikle-Small – Rachel Hunter
As with the previous actor, scouring through the Instagram pages of various cast members, we found Izzy Meikle-Small. She, too, is a very young British actress whose television credits see her playing the young version of Charlize Theron in The Huntsman: Winter’s War, as well as one of the leads in the BBC miniseries Great Expectations and one of the finalists for the role of Sansa in Game of Thrones. A face marked by sweet features and an intense gaze. She will play our Rachel Hunter!
In what situation do we first meet Rachel and Denzell Hunter in the Outlander books?
The characters of Denzell and Rachel Hunter enter the scene for the first time in the seventh book in the saga, An Echo in The Bone.
In the summer of 1777, Denzell and his sister Rachel sell their house in a small Quaker settlement Oak Grove, and travel north to join the Continental army – Denny as a surgeon, Rachel as a camp follower. They are accompanied by Denny’s former patient, William Ransom.
On their journey, they encounter a Mr. Johnson and his wife, and decide to spend the night at their house, as it’s the only shelter from the rain in the near distance. In the middle of the night, Mrs. Johnson attempts to cut Denny’s throat, but is restrained by the Hunters, while Mr. Johnson tries to kill William with an ax and is subsequently killed in the fight. Some days later, Denzell and Rachel part company with William at a nameless crossroad in New Jersey. They join the Continental army at Fort Ticonderoga, where they meet Jamie and Claire. They quickly become friends with the Frasers; Claire values Denzell as a doctor, and he in turn doesn’t disregard her on account of being a woman.
What do you think? Could they be our Hunters? Tell us your opinion in the comments!
