Great success ahead for Belfast starring Caitriona Balfe and Jamie Dornan, critically acclaimed even before its official release – let’s see the whole cast joining the London premiere in all their glory!
In his most personal film to date, Kenneth Branagh’s Belfast tells the story of a fictional nine-year-old version of himself during the Troubles in late ’60s Northern Ireland – The director and the whole cast, Jude Hill, Caitriona Balfe, Jamie Dornan and Judy Dench join tonight the London Premiere of Belfast!
“It’s really the story of something that happened to me when I was nine years old. That happy life with a big extended family in a very exciting place to live, where life was about playing football, family, meals, a bit of church, and lots of movies. How you dealt with life once, just as we felt all in the last 18 months or so, when your world is turned upside down by uncertainty.”Kenneth Branagh
Jamie Dornan, who plays Pa, the protagonist’s father in the film, connected with the character immediately as someone who is from Belfast himself.
“If you’re from Belfast, no matter what era you’ve grown up in, you’ve been through something. You’ve been through a certain hardship and you’ve been tested at many different stages in your life. There’s a resilience to men and women from Belfast, there’s a resilience and a humor and a desire to do right for your family; it’s a very family orientated place.”Jamie Dornan
Despite her great absence during this tour de force of promotional interviews due to her giving birth to her first child, Belfast leading actress Caitriona Balfe had the opportunity to discuss the project with EW in a recent interview.
“When you get a script about Northern Ireland or that takes place in Northern Ireland, it’s always about the ideology. And this was about the people, the community, the heart. You want to just get people to see that this is what’s important; this rubbish about our side, their side, Ken speaks to it so well in the film. It’s just so ridiculous. We’re all human beings, everyone has dreams, we’re all that little kid, we’re all Buddy at some point. It’s so important to connect to that and remember that and to see that your supposed adversary is the same.”Caitriona Balfe on Belfast
As announced by the production studio Focus Film a few months ago, Belfast will be out in theatres next November 12!
Though, the movie is already in the sights of the Hollywood Foreign Press and Academy as one of the potential nominees for Best Pictures at the 2022 Oscars, not to mention for Best Leading Actor and Actress considering what a great performance Jamie Dornan and Caitriona Balfe gave.
