Kimberley Sustad and Mark Ghanimé star in To All a Good Night, a new, original movie premiering December 7 at 8 p.m. ET/PT as part of the Countdown to Christmas movie line-up on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries – We at Survived The Shows had the chance to chat via email with writer Betsy Morris, who discussed the movie by sharing her experience on set. Check out the full interview below!

Can you tell us a bit about the storyline of “To All a Good Night”?

BETSY MORRIS: As the holidays approach, a woman is emotionally paralyzed by the recent death of her father, who loved Christmas. When she saves the life of a mysterious stranger, her helps her navigate her grief in a way she never expected.

What initially attracted you to the incipit in “To All a Good Night“?

BETSY MORRIS: Believe it or not, it started with a Best-of-Craigslist post (don’t judge me!) I read years ago. A man wrote a thank you to all the people who helped him after his motorcycle accident, including the stranger who held his hand until help and talked calmly unit the ambulance arrived. He said that, if he died, at least he wasn’t alone. That just stuck with me and eventually the story developed.

What do you think makes the romance in the movie so special and captivating?

BETSY MORRIS: Because they’re two strangers whose lives were connected by their love of the same person.

What do you hope audiences take away from watching “To All a Good Night“?

BETSY MORRIS: Sam summed it up in the movie: When you lose someone special, there are a lot of firsts to get through. First birthday without them, first holiday without them, and so on. And it’s really hard to get through those alone. So don’t be afraid to reach out to others.

What was your favorite scene or moment while writing “To All a Good Night“?

BETSY MORRIS: When they’re decorating their trees side by side, and Sam asks if she needs help with the tree…and she admits she does. And we all know they’re not talking about the tree. They’re both opening their hearts to each other and dropping their walls. Our leads did such a lovely job in this scene.
