If you’re looking for a fun show for your kids or even for you adults, Peacock’s new series The Makery starring Brooke Henzell premiered on January 12th. We at Survived The Shows had the pleasure of chatting with Brooke Henzell, about her experience in the making of the series and her next project. Check out full interview below!
What’s been the main element in The Makery that fascinates you the most and also convinced you to join the show as a host?
BROOKE HENZELL: Ooh. Well, I’ve never worked with animation before, so that was really exciting. And you know, even though while we were filming it, it was very much like I’m talking to a spot somewhere, it was really gratifying to see it show up in the final product.
For all the people that have no idea what The Makery is about, how would you describe it?
I would say it’s really about – my character, Brooke, lives in this cartoon house, and the house is alive. We’re kind of best friends, and I get into lots of silly trouble. I fall over, I break things, and the house often finds a way to turn it into something we can make together. So we make a lot of things, a lot of arts and crafts. And we bake things, and everyone watching can kind of join in.
What’s been the biggest challenge for you in embracing such a key role as a preschool series host?
I think just the role because that requires a lot of energy. And because of COVID a lot of the other things that would often be my break from shooting had already been filmed. So really all day, every day, it was just really me being super, super plugged in, super energetic. So I think the challenge was maintaining that energy and hopefully, hopefully I did that.

Besides all this, you’re also an actress who’s soon coming to the big screen with a new comedic horror movie. What can you tease about this movie and your role in it?
You don’t ever want to give too much away with a horror film, but I think it’s really fun in that it takes horror as a genre where there are a lot of rules about what typically happens and why certain characters do certain things, and I think this film really flips that on its head in a fun way.
The combination of comedy and horror isn’t as much easy as it seems. What’s been for you the biggest challenge in taking this combination on screen?
Well, I guess it gives you an opportunity to put that – Just because it’s funny doesn’t mean they’re not taking it really seriously. So I guess with Comic Horror you’re really playing like that’s doubly true because things are going really, really badly. And so yeah, that kind of naturally you get to lean into that and let the director and kind of everything else build in the laughs.
Throwing back to the origins of your career in entertainment, how did the passion for acting, and music come about in your life?
Well, I probably started in musicals when I was a kid. I did things like “Le Miz” and “Cats” when I was really small. I did a lot of competitions playing piano and dancing and that sort of thing. And that kind of just evolved into finding an acting agent. And from there, once you enter the professional realm, you’re pretty quickly introduced to film as well as the theater training I was doing.
