Jocelyn Hudon and Olivier Renaud will star in Romance with a Twist, a new, original movie premiering January 27 at 8 p.m. ET/PT as part of the New Years New movies 2024 line-up on Hallmark Channel. We at Survived The Shows had the pleasure of chatting with Director Maxwell Mcguire, about his experience on the movie “Romance with a Twist” and a lot more.
Can you tell us a bit about the storyline of “Romance with a Twist”?
It’s an acrobatic love story about a dancer who gave up her dream, but gets a chance to relive it in the air when their local arts festival loses one of their performers, and she’s faced with learning aerial skills in order to help the festival out and just might get tied up in a love story!
What initially attracted you to the story in “Romance with a Twist”?
It was a familiar storyline, but with wild visuals. The opportunity to work with a whole new type of art. Aerial acrobatics is a differentiator in this love story. I got to work with amazing performers and our stars learned skills for the movie too. Very impressive and it was challenging and I’m really proud of how it turned out.
What do you think makes the romance in the movie so special and captivating?
The romance is born of shared passion for performance in each of their respective disciplines. Their journey on the silks mimics and affects their love story on the ground. It’s well executed and their kiss, I guarantee you, has not been done like this on hallmark!
What do you hope audiences take away from watching “Romance with a Twist”?
Sometimes circumstances can stand in the way of your plans, but only if you let them. If you’re passionate enough, you can find a way to live out your dream.
What can you tease about the characters Journey?
It’s vertical, it has ups and downs and their journey is reflective of the skills they need to learn to perform!
What was your favorite scene or moment while directing “Romance with a Twist”?
The finale was a massive accomplishment, getting the big performance figured out and shot on time with actors and doubles and the usual stresses of filmmaking felt like a feat that we should all be proud of!
Can you tease something about your next projects?
I’m currently in prep on a fun christmas movie that might involve someone’s obsession with snowflakes and all their unique qualities!
‘Romance with a Twist‘ direct by Maxwell Mcguire will premiere on Saturday, January 27th on Hallmark Channel.
