Sashaleigha Hightower & David Shawn McConnell star in “Love in Aruba” a new, original movie premiering Saturday, February 18 at 8/7c on Great American Family. Let’s take a first look! We at Survived The Shows had the pleasure of chatting with Writer Brittany Wiscombe about her experience in the making of “Love in Aruba“ and what fans can expect from the movie.

What’s the main element in Amber’s and Connor’s characters and the movie in general that fascinates you the most and drew you to join Love in Aruba?
I liked the idea of adjusting to a new person for Connor and his daughter. Even though Amber starts as someone helping out, she impacts the family in making them figure out how they’ll interact and work together.
As we know quite well so far, GAC movies and shows always feature well-shaped and relatable characters – Where are you and the characters of this movie most similar and where most different as human beings?
Being a mother, I relate a lot to the parent-child dynamic, and I feel that gives me insight into how both parents and children think. I love how Macey picks up on the true feelings and sees through the adults’ behaviors. On the other side, I feel most different from the main character, Amber, because she’s a teacher—a profession I greatly respect, but I know I would struggle to teach in a school setting.
What’s been the biggest challenge for you in writing this movie?
I suppose one challenge I faced is creating enough drama and tension, sometimes even an element of danger, without it feeling out of place. It’s the balance of making something engaging and exciting without making the viewer feel like the story left the romance genre behind.
To all the fans looking forward to watching the movie, how would you describe Love in Aruba in just three words?
I think the title says it all in 3 words. 😊
What can you tease about Amber’s and Connor’s journey throughout the movie?
Amber gets the chance to experience a whole country and the heartfelt insight into one family’s relationship. Through that, she sees something special she could be part of, while Connor discovers what a difference she can make in his own life.
Talking about the environment on set, how would you describe your experience while filming Love in Aruba and do you have any fun anecdotes to share?
I visited Aruba to plan out the story, but I wasn’t present for filming. I heard it was very hot since air conditioning is sometimes not available in all locations. For better or worse, it is very breezy in Aruba. (Not great for filming outdoors, but a great way to cool down.)
If you could choose a character from Love in Aruba that you would have loved to play, which one would it be and why?
I love the witty friend Shauna who has one of the best lines in the movie to help give Connor some perspective.
