Mariel Molino, Amy Acker and many more star in the Freeform’s tv show “The Watchful Eye” that premiered on January 30. You can catch up all the episode of Season 1 and final on the Freeform app. We at Survived The Shows had the pleasure of chatting with star Elyse Maloway about her experience in the making of The Watchful Eye Season 1.
How did you prepare for your role as Jocelyn in The Watchful Eye?
Elyse Maloway: I did actually a fair amount of reading because Jocelyn is kind of based on the real experience of a lot of Irish immigrants who came to North America in the early 1900s to be nannies and maids and that kind of thing. So I did a lot of reading about that kind of experience, just to know a bit more what her life would have been like.
What do you think sets Jocelyn apart from other characters you’ve portrayed in the past?
Elyse Maloway: It was the first time that I got to explore a character over a whole season of a show. I’d mostly done kind of couple days here and there, a little like guest star Principal Roles and it was so interesting to really dive in and see who she was and what it was that she wanted in her life, as well as what she wanted in present day from Elena. And yeah, just to really explore what my concept of the afterlife might be like and how that works with the ideas that the show had. And yeah, plus it was really fun to do the Irish accent because I hadn’t really done that a whole time, so it’s nice to work on some dialect coaching.
