Emily Alatalo and Ryan Bruce star in The Princess and The BodyGuard, which premiered May 6 on UPtv Network. We at Survived The Shows had the incredible pleasure to chat with Emily Alatalo, discuss her experience in the movie and preview what’s next for her. Check out the full interview below!

What’s the main element in Lexi’s character and the movie in general that fascinates you the most and drew you to join The Princess and The Bodyguard?

I love that Lexi follows her dreams. She’s not afraid to be authentically herself.

Where are you and Lexi most similar and were most different as human beings?

Like Lexi, I am quite adaptable, but Lexi comes from enormous privilege (and responsibility!) whereas I come from an average upbringing.

What’s been the biggest challenge for you in portraying Lexi?

Trying to embody someone who’s grown up with such responsibility was difficult for me. I’ve never felt pressured to follow in my parents footsteps – they’ve always been very supportive of me choosing my own path.

To all the fans looking forward to watching the movie, how would you describe The Princess and The Bodyguard in just 3 words?

Romance, Friendship, Secrets!

What can you tease about Lexi’s journey throughout the film?

Lexi has chosen to live a normal life – but maybe her Royal Responsibilities aren’t so bad…

Talking about the environment on set, how would you describe your experience while filming The Princess and The Bodyguard and do you have any fun anecdotes to share?

The environment was very collaborative. It very much felt like a “best idea wins” crew.

If you could choose any other character from The Princess and The Bodyguard, apart from Lexi, that you would have loved to play, which one would it be and why?

Chrissy is SO much fun! I loved how quirky and playful she is. I would have loved to have played her too.

And you’re also starring on Christmas Time Capsule alongside Franco Lo Presti soon – What’s the main element in Tiffany’s character and the movie in general that fascinates you the most?

Getting to work with my handsome fiancé, Franco Lo Presti! 🙂

What can you tease about Tiffany’s journey throughout the movie?

Tiffany is someone who should have spoken up about her feelings a long time ago – but right when she’s about to lose the love of her life forever, she’s granted one last opportunity.

Throwing back to the origins of your career, how did the passion for acting come about in your life?

My Grandpa Garnie always told me “Emilia Godzilla, one day you’re going to be an actress”, and that always stuck with me. It wasn’t really something I took seriously, mostly because I come from a small town and didn’t know how to get started. But when I moved closer to Toronto I decided to try an acting class… and totally fell in love with the craft.

Among all the roles you’ve had the chance to play throughout your career, is there any particular role you’re most fond of?

I really loved playing “Kate” in an indie film called “NeverLost” and playing “Emma” in Spare Parts. I love Romance & Action… but I’ve yet to play a role that combines the two. Fingers crossed!

What can you tease about your next projects?

I am really excited to share Christmas Time Capsule with the world. What a joy it was to play opposite my real life fiancé. We met shooting Christmas Catch for Brain Power Studio, and it was so cool to work with them again, now that so much has changed.

The Princess and The Bodyguard, starring Emily Alatalo and Ryan Bruce, is available to stream on UPtv. Get a preview below!
