If you’re looking for a good scream, Oliver Park’s new horror thriller movie The Offering is coming out in US theatres and streaming platforms on January 13th. We at Survived The Shows had the pleasure of chatting with Emily Wiseman, who stars as Claire, about her experience in the making of the movie and what fans can expect. Check out full interview below!
What’s the main element in Claire’s character and the movie in general that fascinates you the most and drew you to join The Offering?
EMILY WISEMAN: When I first read the script, what really attracted me to the role and the project the most was the challenge of actually working and filming horror. And then also the script was so rich and just full of heart and meaning. I find that really rare in horrors. So that really kind of drew me in.
Where are you and Claire most similar and most different as human beings?
I think we’re most similar probably [in her being] fault in some aspects, but you know, in our need to want to make things good and right for everybody around us. I think Claire is very open hearted, innately curious, she kind of puts everyone else before herself and ultimately leads her down. In terms of where we differ, I’d like to think that I’m a little bit feistier than Claire. Like, she’s very polite and nice to everybody. I don’t know if I would put up with a lot of the things that she kind of puts up with, especially when it comes to some of the betrayal and lies that she finds out about her husband.
To all the fans looking forward to watching the movie, how would you describe The Offering in just 3 words?
Thrilling. Exhilarating. I’m going to have 5 words with like Scary As Hell
What’s been the biggest challenge for you in portraying Claire?
The biggest challenge for me in portraying Claire was actually that a lot of my scenes are just me and the diamond. I don’t necessarily have the pleasure of working opposite, you know, the other actors as much as they do with each other. So I think the biggest challenge was just the technical aspects of horror. It’s extremely technical and the stakes are so high and emotionality is so high and so kind of using my imagination to create to create this kind of demand and work opposite something that doesn’t exist was probably the most challenging for me.
If you could choose any other character from The Offering, apart from Claire, that you would have loved to play, which one would it be and why?
Definitely Hamish, played by Paul Kaye. I don’t know if I could do it as well as he does, but he basically plays this Orthodox Jewish, just rock star who works in the morgue and he’s just brilliant. I think that’s a really fun character.
