Isabella Carlsen and Muretta Moss star in the movie Killing All my Sisters premiered on Lifetime Movie Network on Thursday March 14th, 2024 at 8/7c. We at Survived The Shows had the incredible chance to talk with star Isabella Carlsen, who teased the movie and her experience in Killing All my Sisters. Check out the full interview below!

“Killing all my Sisters” seems to delve into the complexities of friendship and ambition. What drew you to this particular project?

I thought the script was so fun when I first read it and I related to Emily so much that it didn’t feel too far from home. I then heard Haylie Duff was directing it and that was extremely exciting because I was such a huge fan growing up. (Still am)

Emily and Jenna’s friendship undergoes significant challenges in the film. How did you approach portraying the emotional depth of their relationship?

Muguet, Haylie, and I had a lot of conversations about my character Emily and her best friend Jenna in the movie. We talked a lot about their past and what they’ve been through already together before the movie even starts. It wasn’t hard to imagine how scary it would be if my best friend went missing and what that might feel like.

Can you tell us about any personal connections or experiences that helped you understand your character, Emily, and her journey throughout the film?

My friendship with my best friend in real life reminds me a lot of Jenna and Emily’s friendship. We are always looking out for each other’s backs and not afraid to tell the truth how we see it, even if it may come as a surprise to the other. I also have a very close relationship with my mom and I can literally go to her about anything and she will give the best advice.

The film touches on themes of ambition and the pressures of success. How do you think these themes resonate with audiences, particularly young adults?

I think obviously there’s a lot of pressure to fit in no matter where you are. I remember my first year in college, I was so excited to go to the parties and be seen with the “in crowd” and it’s very easy to lose sight of who you are and why you’re actually there. I think that just comes with living and learning though and finding out for yourself sometimes.

As the lead actress, what was the most challenging aspect of filming “Killing all my Sisters”?

Well, like my character, I also have asthma and had to actually be homeschooled through second grade because of it. It was a challenge to learn labored breathing and faking an “asthma attack” without actually triggering one in real life. So that was definitely interesting!

“Killing all my Sisters” explores the concept of sisterhood within a sorority, albeit with dark undertones. What do you think audiences will find most intriguing about this aspect of the story?

I think it’s interesting to watch these young, pretty girls be so cut-throat and savage when it comes to the sorority and protecting their own. Also deaths happening around a sorority house just sounds so wild.

How did you prepare for the physically demanding scenes in the film, particularly those involving Emily’s quest to find her missing friend?

I live a pretty active lifestyle and prepared myself mentally and physically before each scene. When we filmed the scene in the attic, it had to be almost 90 degrees in there and I had to keep falling on a crash pad over and over again. I think I drank two bottles of water after that one.

The film seems to blend elements of mystery and thriller. What was your favorite scene to film, and why?

I would say it’s a tie between the rooftop scene and the chase scene from the dean’s office. Shooting with all the girls was always a blast. We would finish filming around 3am so it was literally like a sleepover except we were chugging coffee between takes.

The sorority in the film holds dark secrets. Can you discuss how these secrets impact the characters and the overall narrative?

Well there are definitely friends fooling around with each other’s ex’s and keeping it from them which is a no-go when it comes to girl code. The break of trust will upset anyone but in this film it literally drives people insane. This particular sorority house is NUTS.

Lastly, what do you hope audiences take away from “Killing all my Sisters” after watching it?

This is going to sound cheesy, but I think the power of friendship and having each other’s back is everything. I think staying true to yourself and being honest with the people you love is what’s important at the end of the day.

Can you tease something about your upcoming projects?

Pretty soon I’ll be filming my first horror feature and I’m super excited! Horror is my favorite genre and I can’t wait to start.

“Killing All my Sisters” starring Isabella Carlsen will premiere on Thursday, March 14th on Lifetime Movie Network.
