Can you tell us a bit about your character in Scouting for Christmas?
Yes. Well, that is. That’s an understatement. Elizabeth is a yemenite character. This is probably one of the funniest, funniest characters I’ve ever played in any movie, ever. I don’t know if you’ve watched curious caterer, Marla’s pretty funny, but this one just takes the kate. She is the nemesis of Tamera Mowry-Housley. Tamera Mowry-Housley plays the lead in this film, and Elizabeth is her nemesis. She is your typical, PTA mother who’s just a helicopter parent. She’s very OCD and for her everything has to be very perfect and very put together. And she happens to be the girl, the scout leader for the scout troop at the school. So Tamera’s character’s daughter is in my scout troop, and I just give her a lot of hard time and, you know, I won’t ruin it. And at the end, there’s a little bit of a twist. But she’s a funny lady. She’s very particular, but I had a really, really good time with her. Yeah, I think people will get a good laugh out of Elizabeth.
What initially attracted you to your role in Scouting for Christmas?
You know, it’s a really funny story, so I don’t know if you’ve ever had Marci T. House on your show. She’s been in the Hallmark world for ages as an actor, and this was her first executive producer credit. And we’ve been good friends for a while. We did a series together on Netflix called Ivy and Bean. That’s where we met. We’ve been friends for ages since then, but this was her first producing credit, and she reached out to me and said: ‘hey, we have this character’. I think you’d be perfect for it. Would you mind auditioning? And I said, absolutely.
Like, I didn’t even read the script. I was like, send it. Send me the sides. I will put it on tape immediately for you because she’s just such a dear friend of mine. And it just so happened that the character was amazing. And, you know, even if it was terrible, I would have done it for Marci. But I got lucky and it was, yeah, honestly, one of the best characters I’ve ever played. I was really, really happy about it. So initially it was because I wanted to work with Marci and help her out with her first ep credit, but then in the end, it ended up being, you know, an honour for me to be a part of this film because it is just so. It’s so great. You guys are going to love it.
