We at Survived The Shows had the pleasure of chatting with star Kyle Rowe about his journey as Ehud in “Those about to Die” and his career. Check out the full interview in the video below!
Can you tell us a bit about your character in Those about to die?
So Ehud is a young Judean who is working in what we see is kind of the flavian amphitheater. And Titus, obviously, son of Vespasian, who is the lover of Berenice, has kind of conquered their land, the judean land, and brought them all to Rome and start working on what we then see as kind of the roman empire and the Colosseum. Obviously, with that comes the kind of the disputes and the kind of hot headedness, shall we say. And so Berenice kind of reassures them that kind of through her bond with Titus, that they will be looked after and that she will kind of look after them.
But Ehud and his boys, without giving anything away, to kind of keep everyone watching it kind of in their own way kind of rebel against that and kind of plot and twist things that are going on.
And then hopefully, whenever watches it, they’ll see what they eventually kind of get up to. But I won’t give any spoilers away to those who haven’t watched it yet. But, yeah, ultimately, Ehud is kind of a young Judean who has been kind of brought to Rome to kind of build this, the empire. And then in and amongst that, and obviously, amongst the huge amounts of subplot that we get through this incredible tv series, kind of, I think, in true kind of those about to die style takes his own. Takes his own version of rise or die to the next level
What initially attracted you to your role in Those about to die?
I think as soon as I got the script through, obviously, you know, one of the big pulls was obviously, you know, the team behind it. Obviously, you know, I mean, what an opportunity to work with Roland Emmerich on this, you know, the master of disaster.
I mean, so as soon as I seen that, obviously, the studio behind it with Peacock. But I think, you know, artistically, I think the script, just as soon as I read it, was just incredible. You know, we’ve got this. I think it’s always tricky with stuff like this because you kind of read it and you go. And it’s not our job, but you do as the actor, you kind of go, oh, my God, how are they going to achieve that? Like, it’s so big, it’s so bold. It was electric.
And from the moment I read the script, that’s what it was brutal, it was visceral, it was electric in its pace, kind of page to page. And so that was my initial draw.
I was like, oh, my God, I have to be a part of this. Then obviously delving further into ichud and kind of what I think ultimately with this, you’re representing a person that existed in time, a generation, a demographic of people that existed within time. And I think as an artist, as an actor, it’s always your job to serve that demographic of people. And I think the way that kind of ihud and kind of, you know, the hotheads and the judains fitted into that really kind of fascinating me because I think people often overlook those people. You know, the people who kind of made this all work and the people who got this off the ground and because, you know, ultimately, we do see kind of, you know, the colosseum being associated with the emperor.
