Our Mother’s Secret Affair will premiere on Lifetime Movie Network on May 2nd. We at Survived The Shows had the pleasure of chatting with lead Laura Provenzano, who portrays Kasey, about her experience on LMN’s Our Mother’s Secret Affair and a lot more.

Can you tell us a bit about your character in Our Mother’s Secret Affair?
I play Kasey. Kasey is a typical angsty teenager that has two loving parents, Troy and Elle. Kasey’s life is flipped upside down when she uncovers a secret: her father had an affair with another woman named Diana Parker and she is her biological daughter. Kasey is desperate to know her roots which puts a strain on her relationship with her mother, Elle. Kasey loves hard and is fiercely protective of her new found family.
What initially attracted you to your role in Our Mother’s Secret Affair?
What initially attracted me to Kasey’s role was the complexity and curiosity of her character. Kasey feels deeply which leads her to make an impulsive decision that makes both families’ worlds come crashing down. The first time I read the script, I found it was so captivating that I felt eager to know what happened next!
What do you think makes this movie so special and captivating?
This movie will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat. It won’t be what you expected and the cast and crew do a great job on drawing out that suspense!
What do you hope audiences take away from watching Our Mother’s Secret Affair?
I hope that audiences take away that each family is different, and no matter how complicated they are, love will always shine through. This movie highlights the complexities of the two families’ relationships, varying from character to character. It stresses the importances openness within parent-child relationships and how secrets can fester and impact one’s life.
What was it like working with the rest of the cast on set?
This was one of my first ever movie sets to work on and I had the best time! The crew was extremely kind and welcoming. Pierre and Roxanne were an absolute delight to work with and really made me feel good about my performances! Roxanne is such a driven director, watching her direct is so captivating in itself because she is so dedicated to drawing out the best work. The cast was so talented and kind, every actor I worked with made for a great scene partner and we really fed off each other’s energy.
What can you tease about your character Journey?
At the beginning, we see Kasey as a confused and distressed 17-year-old girl who takes it into her own hands to find answers. She’s desperate to uncover the truth her mother and father have been hiding from her which puts a strain on their relationship, while she finds comfort in her half-sister, Francine. Kasey progresses into a fiercely protective and loving young girl who cherishes both families she comes from.
What was your favorite scene or moment while filming Our Mother’s Secret Affair?
This is definitely a hard choice, but I would say one of the first scenes is my favourite, specifically when I’m getting pressed by a police officer for breaking into the Parker house. This is a high intensity scene that serves as the foundation for the rest of the film. Laura Afelskie, Scott Gibson, Ashley Leggat and Tonjha Richardson were great partners for the scene and really helped me draw out the best performance I could give.
At Survived the Shows, we are big fans of Christmas comedies. What is your all-time favorite?
I love the first Home Alone movie – it’s so nostalgic and definitely a classic! I also like Elf, but my sister has made me watch it way too many times!
Change of subject, What have been some of the most memorable projects you have worked on throughout your career, and why?
As stated earlier, this is one of my first projects so this is definitely one for the books! Other than that, I was featured in a few other short films. One of the most memorable projects I worked on is called Yesterday Will Hurt, in which I travelled with my mother to Goderich, Ontario to film that movie. The cast and crew were so kind and the scenery in Goderich was beautiful! It was my first ever role and for that I hold it close to my heart.
Can you tease something about your next projects?
I am featured in a film called Dabria which takes place in a dystopian world where an infection takes over and follows a family’s attempt of survival. It was a super cool experience and I got to wear some awesome special effects makeup in the process!
