Skye Coyne, Ryan Carnes and Matthew Pohlkamp star in Cruise Ship Murder, a new, original movie premiering Sunday May 25th at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Lifetime Channel. We at Survived the Shows had the incredible chance to speak with lead Skye Coyne, who teased Lifetime’s Cruise Ship Murder and her experience in the movie. Check out the full interview in the video below!

How did you prepare for the intense role of Olivia, especially given the high-stakes environment of a cruise ship and the unraveling mystery?

So this particular project was very special for a number of reasons, one of them being, I have never had such a short amount of time to prepare for a role. I actually got brought on to this movie. I think it was two days before we started filming, so they were having some trouble with casting, and I had worked with the director, Randy Carter, before, and so he called me and asked if I could do it. So it wasn’t even something that I had auditioned for.

This was one where I just kind of had to do it. I had to just trust my instincts, trust my knowledge of the story. And I think a huge part of that was being able to work with Randy because we share so many creative ideas with one another, the director. So I think that was a huge part in allowing me to kind of prepare day by day and just kind of go for it, honestly.

Without giving too much away, what was the most surprising twist in the script for you, and how did it impact your approach to Olivia’s character development?

First, as far as just the character development, all of Olivia’s hunches and suspicions that she gets throughout the movie, for various reasons, to me, they all made sense in that moment, given the circumstances. So I think understanding the stakes of her life, needing to find out what on earth happened to her aunt, that is, I think, the core and the heart of everything. So I think understanding that she has to exhaust all avenues and figure everything out, that just made sense to me and so that was, I guess, how I approached it. As far as parts that were surprising. I mean, there were definitely a couple moments that I was like, oh, this is happening now, but I can’t say what they are. You’re gonna have to watch to find out.
