We at Survived The Shows had the great pleasure of chatting with Matt Wells, discuss his role in the movie and what can fans expect from it. Check out the full interview below!

How did you approach the role of Kent in “My Husband’s Worst Mistake”?
MATT WELLS: Like any role I just look for the humanity in the character. I try to find a balance between myself and the person I’m portraying so as to make it as truthful as possible no matter if it’s dramatic or comedic or whatever. I just want it to feel honest.
What attracted you to the character of Kent and the overall storyline of the film?
Actually, what first attracted me to this project was the director. I have some working history with Roxanne (Boisvert) and was excited to tackle this project with her. She loves actors, the creative process, and finding honesty in performances. As for Kent, I liked that he was a good guy, a normal guy, who made a mistake and finds himself in a desperate situation. Also, thrillers are just fun to make.
What was the most challenging aspect of portraying Kent?
There are some emotional moments between Kent and his wife Sarah (played by the very talented Sarah Cleveland) that were pretty heavy. She really went for it which brought a lot of weight to those scenes. Sometimes it’s hard to turn off those emotions or the dark feelings right away. I loved these scenes but they can stay with you sometimes.
Can you share any interesting behind-the-scenes moments or anecdotes from filming?
I recall a nice dinner one night that myself, Sarah (Cleveland) and Camille (Blott) had together at a restaurant after shooting. Camille played our daughter (Lucy) in the film. We took a photo together and I’m pretty sure it ended up in the actual movie in the background somewhere as a “real” family photo.

How did you prepare for the emotional scenes in the film?
I have a few different songs that I have strong emotional attachments to. I sometimes use music when I’m writing and/or acting to help find a vibe or zone I need to be in. The song will set me up but being in the scene with my acting partner brings it to life. I’m pretty sure I was listening to some tracks from Willie Nelson’s album ‘Teatro” for this film.
Did you draw inspiration from any real-life individuals or experiences to shape your portrayal of Kent?
I always bring a little bit of myself into every character.
What do you hope viewers take away from your character’s journey in the film?
Kent and Sarah are struggling through a bumpy road in their marriage. A very relatable push and pull to many people I’m sure. Our mistakes don’t define us. I think that’s an underlying message through all the twists and turns of this fun thriller.
What was your favorite scene to film and why?
The scene between Kent and Brad (played by Scott Gibson) in jail was a lot of fun. So much tension there at that point in the story and Brad is really messing with Kent. Sometimes there’s a lot of “action” in a scene where you have to move to “Point A” and then “Point B” but in this scene it was just 2 actors sitting down and facing each other. The movement was all in the dialogue which was challenging and very enjoyable. Scott is a GREAT actor which made it all the more fun.
Did you face any specific difficulties or unique challenges while working on this project?
Truthfully, no. This was a very smooth shoot and I enjoyed every moment. Great cast. Great crew. Loved it.

As an actor, what do you find most rewarding about bringing complex characters like Kent to life on screen?
I just love acting. I love going for it and finding new and truthful moments in every take. We can learn our lines all we want and find the place where we have to stand but it’s not until we come face to face with the other actors, in the moment, that it really starts to become a living thing.
What can you tease about your next projects?
I was lucky to be part of a cool new comedy with an amazing ensemble cast called “Who’s Yer Father” which is heading to Film Festivals soon. Great script by Jeremy Larter (he also directed it). Keep an eye out.
