EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Megan Best Talks About Playing Darcy on The Watchful Eye – WATCH

We at Survived The Shows had the pleasure of chatting with star Megan Best about her experience in the Freeform show The Watchful Eye. Check out the full interview in the video below!

What drew you to the role of Darcy on The Watchful Eye and fascinates you the most about it?

MEGAN BEST: I loved how I feel. There was the sense of, like, play with her, especially in my audition. And then when I got there, obviously working with the other actors, it kind of molded her into somebody different. But every time I was playing her, it just felt so playful and bouncy just working with everybody else. I think like she’s just to her roots like a good person. She was tested and had a lot of tests, morally just trying to navigate being a young girl. And also figure out how to balance taking care of her father while also doing the right thing.

It made me question even like what I would do in that situation if I was put in her shoes. And especially like she has an arc over the series if you get a chance to watch it but she is very different from the beginning to the end. Because in my opinion, she does stay very true like to who she is deep down. But the choices that she’s making are definitely questionable and I think that they kind of leaves viewers wondering like what her intentions are in especially the last episode and why she does what she does. I think I did love that she was just a good person and she just loved everybody so much.

How did you prepare for the role?

MEGAN BEST: That’s a great question. I read Jane Austen books because in the audition, it said that she was the kind of girl that would read Jane Austen. And so I was like, maybe I’ll read her material. And I also am a huge fan of finding pieces of music that kind of make me think of the character, what she’s going through or what she might listen to. In this situation, I heavily relied on that I developed a very strong bond with my cast mates, especially Grace Kaufman, who plays my sister Bennett.

We spent a lot of time together, which I think it really helped our comfortability and our sisterly bond and I do consider like her sister in real life. We became so incredibly close and I love her to death. The whole cast, I think just like I’m a huge fan of just getting to know everybody that you’re working with and developing relationships with people outside of work. It helps me so much. And I think those are the main things that I did and just and just did a lot of reflection, looked at my own relationship with my father. Because her relationship with her dad is so significant in this story.

Unfortunately we we’ve just learned a few days ago that the Watchful Eye has been cancelled by the network. What was your reaction when you learned about it? Were you expecting it?

MEGAN BEST: I was heartbroken. I was so sad. I’ve been texting my cast mates a little bit and we’re all pretty torn up about it. It’s hard to say I wasn’t. I’ve never done a TV show before and so I didn’t really know what to expect. I don’t know how much I’m allowed to say. I think that we were very hopeful for a Season 2 and there was just so much that we wanted to explore. I know there was so much I wanted to explore with Darcy. There’s so many unanswered questions.

I was really hoping for it and the cards just didn’t fall that way. Unfortunately, I’m not too sure why. The industry’s obviously in a very tough spot right now for a lot of people, so that definitely, I’m sure played a factor. But yeah, I’m just really grateful to all the fans that watched the show and that enjoyed season one and I had an amazing time on it and I love every single person part of it, so
