Rebecca Liddiard and Dan Jeannotte star in the new GAW movie “Lease on Love”, which premiered Saturday, January 14 on Great American Family Network. We at Survived The Shows had the pleasure of chatting with Morgan David Jones, who stars as Joel, about his experience in the making of Lease on Love and what fans can expect. Check out full interview below!
What’s the main element in Joel’s character and the movies in general that fascinates you the most and drew you to join Lease on Love?
MORGAN DAVID JONES: Playing the other man in all these romances is somewhat difficult because sometimes the way that character is written, it could come across maybe not like he’s not the nicest guy. And we find it really hard. Like you want to follow Poppy, you want to make sure that she is falls in love with the right person, but if she’s dating someone at the beginning, which obviously Joel and her are, you want to believe that there is some. Love and some like companionship that they were kind of worth being together.
So making making him a really like grounded, complex character that you actually want to root for. And what drew me to it is that they were great for each other. But they just may not be perfect for each other. And I think I’ve been in relationships and I know that I have some friends that everything just works so well. But maybe it’s not the spot that that kind of perfect chemistry. And I really like that kind of story that they came to it together, that it wasn’t someone cheating. It wasn’t anything that way.
It was just a realization that this was great for what it was. But I think the the length of this relationship has come to an end point and I think the way that they ended that was kind of a. Really mature, adult way, and I think that is what drew me to Joel.
As we know quite well so far, GAC movies and shows always feature well-shaped and relatable characters – Where are you and Joel most similar and where most different as human beings?
Joel doesn’t really get too jealous or too upset with the whole storyline of Poppy pretending to be engaged to somebody else. And I think that’s where we differ. I think I would feel like ‘red flag, something’s going on’. Like I’m not comfortable with this. So I feel that’s the biggest difference. Where I think we were the same is the sensibility of realizing that people come into our lives, you know that famous quote, people come into our lives for a season or lifetime and registering that it’s not a bad thing if they’ve come to a season and that season has come to an end. And I think that’s where I connect a lot to him because I think it’s a nice mature emotional way to go. That was what we have is amazing, but that’s come to its final completion.

To all the fans that haven’t watched the movie yet, how would you describe Lease on Love in just 3 words?
Quirky. Upbeat. and romantic.
What’s been the biggest challenge for you in portraying Joel?
You know, going back to the making sure that their relationship was believable and that you also wanted to root for that, you wanted her to make the right decision and he wanted it to be a difficult decision that it wasn’t like this. I think working with that kind of energy was probably the hardest thing. But really working with Rebecca and working with Dan were just so fantastic. So it was so easy to get that energy between us. It was so playful and fun on set as well.
If you could choose any other character on Lease on Love, apart from Joel, a character that you would have loved to play if you could, which one would it be and why?
If you’re my agent or casting, I would also go for Dan’s role. But you know what, for fun, it would be really fun to play Ingrid, the social Instagrammer. You’d have a really playful and I could go so extreme. That would be something out-of-the-box and I think that would be really fun
