The new Great American Family rom-com movie, Learning to Love, is expected to air on the channel on Saturday September 2nd, 2023. We at Survived The Shows had the pleasure of chatting with star Philip Boyd about his experience in the making of Learning to Love and what fans can expect from the movie.
Can you tell us a bit about your character Harry in Learning to Love?
The character is a man who lost his wife due to cancer and he had two young girls that he was left with to raise and he wanted to give them a proper education. He wanted to homeschool them, and the previous teachers that he had used didn’t work out so well. And so he interviewed this one girl. By happenstance, she walks into the wrong office and she used to be a teacher. And it just so happens that they found a way to have her come into the house and teach the girls, and they formed a relationship.
What do you think makes the romance between Harry and Stephanie in the movie so special and captivating?
Well, for Harry, he pretty much closed off his emotional life due to the fact of losing the mother of his children, so I don’t think that he was able to really let himself go and connect with another female. Because I think you still had grief and love for her, so it makes it hard to move on past. Sometimes when you’ve had the love of your life that has your daughters and a lot of people close off and say that’s it, no more.
I had the love of my life and to have somebody come in, there’s a breath of fresh air that looks at the positive of things and I just made him open his heart up a little bit more to know that it’s OK to move on and maybe his wife would want him to be happy and to learn to love again.
