EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW – Reed Favero Breaks Down Playing Blake on UPtv’s The Wedding Wish!

How did you get involved in the film “The Wedding Wish” and what attracted you to the role of Blake?

REED FAVERO: I have worked with the director, Damian Romay, producer, Jacobo Rispa, and the casting director Lori Wyman on multiple projects before. We all work well together and they have a great team. When they offered me the part of Blake, his non-standard role in a romantic comedy caught my attention. Romantic comedies all have a bit of a formula but “The Wedding Wish” gets outside of that formula to some extent.   Blake himself is also a non-standard rom-com character.

Can you tell us a bit about your character, Blake, and how he fits into the overall story?

At first, Blake is the archetype of the successful, well-dressed romantic interest in a romantic comedy. He seems to check all the boxes that Jenny, the main character, is looking for. As the film progresses, however, we start to realize that the connection Blake and Jenny have might not be as great as meets the eye.

What was your experience like working with the cast and crew on set?

Most of my character’s scenes were with Jenny, who was played by Kabby Borders. Working with her was a pleasure and a lot of fun. Damian allowed us to rework our lines if we needed and play around with the blocking of our scenes. This made for a looser and more enjoyable filming atmosphere. My other scene partners: Alex Trumble, Andrea Conte, and Adam Crain were great to work with as well.

“The Wedding Wish” is a romantic movie. What do you think sets it apart from other films in the same genre?

“The Wedding Wish” has character driven comedic scenes. There are many scenes you will laugh at as the movie progresses because you have gotten to know the characters as the film unfolds. Beyond that, while “The Wedding Wish” clearly falls into the romantic comedy category, it strays away from the rom-com formula in key parts of the script.

Were there any memorable or funny moments that occurred during the filming process?

All the scenes of this movie were shot at a very rapid pace because the schedule did not allow for a large number of takes. Luckily, at least in my scenes, there were no, over the top obstacles we had to overcome. The film was a memorable experience based on the people I got to work with.. but I am definitely jealous I did not get to shoot with alpacas like Alex and Kabby did. Maybe in the next film 🙂

Can you share a favorite scene or moment from the movie that stands out to you?

I enjoyed shooting the mindfulness class scene. In reality, mindfulness classes are supposed to be similar to meditation. The scene we filmed, on the other hand, was chaotic and filled with funny moments. That juxtaposition brought the comedy out in the scene, and we had a lot of fun shooting it.

What do you hope viewers will take away from watching “The Wedding Wish”?

I hope people enjoy it for what it is; a light-hearted comedy. Beyond that though, I hope people who are actually stressed out about their relationships (or lack thereof) can watch this movie and realize that it is not something they should let ruin or consume their life.

What was your favorite aspect of the character development throughout the film?

The subtext of the movie, while not overly pronounced, is that, while two people might seem like they would be a great couple, they might not have the right connection. Another theme or social commentary would be that relationships should not be forced. We see Jenny realize both these things as the film progresses. That was my favorite character metamorphosis in the film. Kabby did an excellent job portraying this.

How did you approach the romantic aspects of the story, and what was it like working with your co-star in those scenes?

One always hopes to have a good rapport with a romantic co-star. Luckily Kabby and I had that on this set. It is important to have fun and make whomever you are working with feel comfortable. This is something we both did for each other. We have discussed working together again in the future and hopefully we will!

Lastly, can you give us a sneak peek or tease of any upcoming projects or roles you’ll be taking on in the future?

Most recently I have finished shooting another romantic comedy but with a vastly different role. I had a blast shooting it and cannot wait for it to come out. Beyond that, I will be starting a streaming series project soon but I am unfortunately not allowed to say much about it at this time. I am extremely excited to begin production though! Maybe we can touch base again when it comes out.
