Can you tell us a bit about your character in Eternal Visionary?
Yes, in Eterno Visionario I play Cele Abba, who is the sister of Marta Abba, the diva Marta Abba. They were together the actresses of the Pirandellian Company around the 1930s. Let’s say that my role is very functional to that of Marta, because, as we said, she was Luigi Pirandello’s muse. I have always been her little sister, the one who has followed her all her life. If we also want a little bit of a sister in the shadows, because she is also an actress, as is Cele, but certainly obscured by a greater light, which was that of Marta. Let’s say that I started from this assumption in building the character, because I asked myself how she would have felt once she understood that her sister had taken flight and that she would have been an eternal second.
She would have certainly suffered from this. But then I wanted to give her a light, that of freedom, which is the privilege you have when you are in the shadows. You are free to be yourself, who you want to be. So I chose to draw a free character, thinking about the fundamental theme of the film, which is the figure of Luigi Pirandello, seen in private, at home, and how he can also indirectly obfuscate his children or his wife, because such a presence, with such a weight, can be felt, especially within the walls of his house. So there is also this parallelism, if we can say, between me and who has the children, the wife, and who has filled Luigi Pirandello’s life, as well as Marta has filled mine.
What initially attracted you to your role in Eternal Visionary?
Actually, this is what attracted me a little bit, that is, to tell those who do not tell, those who do not tell others, to tell characters who have been behind the scenes, but have also been fundamental for the people who were then under the spotlight. So I wanted to show a character who will surely have had her weaknesses, but who, in her childhood, still took advantage of them for herself.
