The new Lifetime movie, Buying Back My Daughter, will premiere on the channel on Saturday October 7, 2023. We at Survived The Shows had the pleasure of chatting with star Faith Wright, who plays Alicia, about her experience in the making of Buying Back My Daughter and what fans can expect from the movie.

Can you tell us a bit about your character Alicia?
FAITH WRIGHT: Alicia is a 16 year old girl, shy and curious wanting to make new friends and fit in. Highschool is the place where we experience a lot of temptations and peer pressures and also just finding out who we are. Alicia is navigating that world.
What initially attracted you to the role of Alicia in “Buying back my Daughter”?
The overall story in itself is something I’m really passionate about, especially raising awareness around child trafficking/ any trafficking. The story stood out to me, absolutely shattering my heart. It’s a story that needs to be told, because this happens far too often! More families, and teens need to be aware of potential dangers and ways to stay alert and safe. Because in the blink of an eye this could happen to anyone, God forbid.
What do you think makes the action in the movie so special and captivating?
This movie is based on true stories. It’s a heartbreaking reality for far too many people, unfortunately. I think everyone did very well in playing their part, the purpose is not to make this look pretty, it’s evil and we wanted to show the extent of the devastation this causes to families.
What do you hope audiences take away from watching “Buying back my Daughter”?
I hope it wakes up a lot of folks. I hope it sounds the alarm.
What was it like working with the rest of the cast on set?
Working on such a heavy project, it’s a lot for everyone. I feel like we all grew a special bond and a special layer of respect for eachother. Having to support each other along the way. There were many tears but as a team I couldn’t have asked for a better group. I’m so proud of each and everyone of them and so honored to be able to tell this story with such strong individuals that I admire so much.
From cast to crew to production. I am proud to have shared this space telling such an important story.
What can you tease about your character’s Journey?
I can’t say much right now but It will be a heavy one.
What was your favorite scene or moment while filming “Buying back my Daughter”?
Here’s a behind the scene favorite moment! I would get these special relaxing head massages first thing in the morning from my hairstylist Danika right before she did my hair. It was the most magical thing, especially getting ready to start the day with back to back heavy scenes!
Can you tell us about any challenges you faced while filming “Buying back my Daughter” and how you overcame them?
The biggest challenge was the emotional moments. When watching the film it happens, and then you’re on to the next scene. However, while filming, it’s a whole different experience. You’re in that space for hours, doing the scene over and over. Different angles, different shots, coming in closer, etc.. it’s a lot, it’s heavy, and not just heavy for me but for those around me.
We’re all emotional beings, so it’s not normal to watch someone in pain or agony and not come to their aid. It’s a challenge for everyone.
Change of subject, What have been some of the most memorable projects you have worked on throughout your career, and why?
Buying Back My Daughter will have to take the cake! I will forever remember this project, and getting to work alongside Meagan Good is a dream in itself. A full circle moment! From watching her as a kid to working alongside her! An ABSOLUTE DREAM.
A few others that have a special place in my heart are working on PRIDE: A Seven Deadly Sins, So Help Me Todd & The Night Agent!!
Can you tease something about your next projects?
With the strike things have slowed down a lot. Waiting for my brothers and sisters to get that fair deal so we all can get back to doing what we love! As of now working hard and grinding so keep your eyes peeled! 🙂
