Calamity Jane is a 2024 movie, follows already available in digital, starring Arrow’s Emily Bett Rickards and Stephen Amell and Wynonna Earp’s Tim Rozon. The movie follows the story of famous ‘Calamity Jane’. We at Survived The Shows had the pleasure of chatting with star James Drew Dean, who plays Lance, about his experience in the making of the movie ‘Calamity Jane‘ and what fans can expect from the movie.
Can you tell us a bit about your character in the movie ‘Calamity Jane’?
It’s a smaller role. But it was a fun one. He’s a outlaw.
What initially attracted you to your role in the movie ‘Calamity Jane’?
I’m not really at the point in my career where I can pass on roles or pick and choose, but I’d say that when I got the audition I really hoped I’d get it. It’s not often that I get to audition for western cowboy type things. Any role that isn’t modern day or is the biggest departure from me is the most attractive. It’s like the goal. So naturally when this came around I was excited.
What do you think makes this movie so special and captivating?
This movie has a lot of heart and passion poured into it. It didn’t have the biggest budget but we were able to accomplish alot.
What do you hope audiences take away from watching the movie ‘Calamity Jane’?
People had it harder back then. Haha. No. It’s not really for me to say… Each individual would take something different. Discussing it after with whoever you see a movie is part of the fun.
What was it like working with the rest of the cast on set?
It was awesome. What I remember most is everyone being very excited to be making this movie. We filmed in the actual desert near cache creek and other real locations and it was just amazing. It was freezing cold and amazing. In addition to that – Tim and I had a lot of fun off camera doing rubix cubes. He even gave me one. I still have it.
What can you tease about your character Journey?
He isn’t what you think.
What was your favorite scene or moment while filming the movie ‘Calamity Jane’?
Spoilers My favourite scene is near the end with the gattling gun. It’s so over the top and fun.
Can you tell us about any challenges you faced while filming the movie ‘Calamity Jane’ and how you overcame them?
Yeah how do you stay warm in negative 15 when all youre wearing is just a blue dress shirt thing? You don’t. You just accept it. There’s no overcoming that. haha.
Calamity Jane is available for rent and purchase on Amazon.
