What initially attracted you to the story of Kristina in “Christmas by Design”?

What attracted me to the story of Kristina is simply sisterhood- I’m a sucker for a sister love story within a love story since I myself have 2 sisters and they are my favorites.

What do you think makes the romance in the movie so special and captivating?

The romance is so special and captivating is the matching overalls! And the fact that he helps her face her fears and grow in both their relationship and that of her family.

What do you hope audiences take away from watching “Christmas by Design”?

I hope audiences take away from watching that it is important to take time to process grief and give space to family to do so on their own time and have conversations about it even if they are hard and awkward.

What was it like working with the rest of the cast on set again?

The cast was awesome. I loved being a part of the family because we each got time between scenes to get to know eachother.

What can you tease about your character Journey in the movie?

My character journeys through judging her sister which maybe feels easier than eventually opening to the vulnerability of feeling abandoned by her in a time of need.

What was your favorite scene or moment while filming “Christmas by Design”?

My favorite moment was playing pictionary in the cozy living room on the white board because it came at the end of shooting and really was a sweet, silly time together before wrapping up.

Can you tell us about any challenges you faced while filming “Christmas by Design”and how you overcame them?

The only challenge while filming this sweet movie was my littlest one getting sick and having to bring her with me to Ottawa to be close by. Thankfully my mom lives in the area and while it was uncomfortable accepting help and not wanting to make anyone else sick, it was such a comfort to know my child was in the best hands so I could focus on work!

Can you tease something about your next projects?

My next projects at the moment involve taking care of my family and soon preparing for Christmas in real life! Maybe we will watch Christmas by Design.

Christmas by Design with Joanna Douglas will premiere October 27 on Hallmark Channel.
