Natalie Polisson, Jason O’Reilly, and Daniel O’Reilly star in the movie My Child has my Doctor’s Face premiering on Lifetime Channel on Saturday April 20th, 2024 at 8/7c. We at Survived The Shows had the incredible chance to talk with lead Natalie Polisson, who teased the movie and her experience in ‘My Child has my Doctor’s Face’. Check out the full interview below!
Can you tell us a bit about your character in My Child has my Doctor’s Face?
Jessica, an interior designer, lives a picturesque life with her son Henry and husband Dylan, until one day she meets Sarah, another IVF patient who suspects Dr. Bellamy of switching samples during the fertilization process. Sarah’s revelation about their IVF doctor shakes Jessica’s world, triggering memories of past injustices caused by men in power. This influences Jessica to join Sarah on a mission to expose Bellamy and prevent this from happening to unsuspecting patients.
What initially attracted you to your role in My Child has my Doctor’s Face?
As an actor I love characters that are constantly dealing with internal conflict. There are so many levels to play with. Jessica believes in pursuing justice no matter how much risk it brings with it. This film is chalk full of moral dilemmas, personal sacrifices and obstacles at every corner. The change in this character from the beginning to the end had me hooked.
What do you think makes this movie so special and captivating?
The fact that this movie is inspired by true events. Shockingly, over 20 doctors are guilty of inseminating their own patients, which is almost impossible to comprehend. ‘Our Father’ on Netflix and ‘Baby God’ on HBO have highlighted two of these monsters.
There’s a really raw and vulnerable scene between Jessica and Dylan on the difficulties that come with infertility. By delving into the emotional complexities of infertility, the scene underscores the importance of reproductive technology in offering hope to those wanting to start a family.
What do you hope audiences take away from watching My Child has my Doctor’s Face?
I want audiences to feel empowered to speak up and take action in the face of mistreatment, for themselves and others, especially as a woman. I believe this film will spark important conversations about gender equality, power dynamics and speaking truth to power.
What was it like working with the rest of the cast on set?
A literal dream. Everyone was insanely talented, present and 100 percent on board to create the best possible film. Daniel, Jason, and Kelsey were more than willing to engage in detailed discussions, run through scenes and even present questions as a collective to our director Josh. The support I received from each of my cast members on this project is only something I can hope for on future projects.
What can you tease about your character Journey?
Like most people Jessica doesn’t want to believe everything that she’s seeing right in front of her. Unlike Sarah (played by Kelsey Fordham), she is less of a risk taker. It takes a strain of shocking events for Jessica to slowly come out of her shell and become a real heroine.
What was your favorite scene or moment while filming My Child has my Doctor’s Face?
It’s hard to pick, but I love stunts and action. Charlie Reetz, our Steadicam operator was stupendous in these shots. I really loved coordinating the action with the camera work.
Change of subject, What have been some of the most memorable projects you have worked on throughout your career, and why?
Oh this is a tough one! I worked on ‘Maladjustment’, directed by Anatasha Blakely with Abyssmal Entertainment and Infamousworks. It holds a special place in my heart. Working with a female director, especially Anatasha, was a treat. I really felt understood, especially with my character having to deal with a narcissistic monster of a husband. We also had a lot of creative room to improv and I love when that happens.
‘Bisected’ written and directed by Danny Pineros, also makes the list. It’s a Sci-Fi thriller (one of my favorites), where my car drives itself with a little U-Haul movie magic. The stakes were high and the final edit is perfect.
‘Glisten and the Merry Mission’ with Foundation Media Partners and Build-a-Bear Entertainment was a bucket list project because I have always dreamt of being cast in an animated feature. Being able to play multiple characters was a blast. It was so fun to go see this in theaters and have my friends’ kids get to watch my film; they loved it!
Can you tease something about your next projects?
Yes =) I filmed a lead role in a film called ‘The Marlin Cowboy’ directed by Markiss McFadden with McFadden Family Films. It’s a unique and creative family friendly adventure with a surprise “twist” you won’t see coming. I believe it should be coming out late this year.
In a few months I will be filming a major supporting role in ‘Days of Sodom’ – an anticipated ‘The Crown Fan Film’, in DC, directed by Cody Faulk with blessings given by James O’Barr (the creator of the comic book series The Crow). These two projects couldn’t be more different, but I’m pumped for both.
“My Child has my Doctor’s Face” starring Natalie Polisson will premiere on Saturday, April 20th on Lifetime Channel.
