EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Star Reid Price on Rob’s Journey on Sullivan’s Crossing Season 2 – WATCH

We at Survived The Shows had the great pleasure of chatting with star Reid Price and discuss his involvement in the making of Sullivan’s Crossing Season 2 and what can fans expect from the future. Check out the full interview below!

Can you tell us a bit about your character in Sullivan’s Crossing?

Yeah, for sure. I play Rob Shandon. He loves to cook and play guitar. Rob runs a busy local diner which also doubles as a karaoke bar come nightfall. He is navigating a difficult life, trying to balance his professional responsibilities while raising his son, Finn, all in the midst of the unexpected death of his wife. When his wife died his sister, Sydney, returned home to help him with Finn and the diner. I think the audience is really hoping Rob rediscovers harmony in his life and maybe even a new love to help him move forward. Ah, Rob…I really feel for that guy.

What initially attracted you to your role in Sullivan’s Crossing?

When my agent let me know of this opportunity to audition for Sullivan’s Crossing I quickly realised that the role of Rob Shandon might be a great fit for me. I was excited. I thought the fact that he was a widower would be a great challenge that I’d  be excited to prepare for and take on if I were lucky enough to book the role. Lots to learn and consider with a guy like Rob. So much depth to a character that has lost their loving wife…so sad, but it’s the stuff that I dream of playing as an actor. On the flip side, playing a diner owner and bartender is fun, and even though I also play a bartender in another show called, “From” I still don’t know how to sling drinks very well, but I can wipe a table top down with the best of ’em. My busboy days are paying off. Accepting that I’m no expert mixologist, I’ve learned that if you simply put a bar rag over your shoulder it does wonders to make you look the part. Pro tip.

Furthermore, I realised Sullivan’s Crossing was a book series written by Robyn Carr. I looked her up and watched an interview on Youtube. I thought she was so kind, light hearted and funny, and I love funny people! Then I noticed she also wrote the Virgin River book series which was adapted to tv. So I watched some of that and I thought to myself, my God, these people are all so beautiful, I need to clean myself up good…like real good before this audition. Spent so much more time than usual lighting my audition space – it’s a wonder I remembered my lines.

What do you think makes this tv show so special and captivating?

Sullivan’s Crossing is built upon a winning paradigm, that’s where it gets its strength. Robyn Carr wrote the series originally in book form and Roma Roth brings it to our tv screens with so much care and consideration. From that foundation our writers and creators are able to concoct beautifully engaging and thoughtful stories. In my mind it really becomes special because Sullivans is filmed in gorgeous Nova Scotia, a place that embodies love, beauty and home, which happens to be what Sullivan’s is all about. It’s brought to life in captivating form thanks to our amazing filmmakers and actors. So many hardworking people in different departments come together and do the dang thing. I’m so proud watching cast performances when episodes drop. I know many have done it for years, but they are all so good at what they do. All led by Morgan Kohan as our incredible lead. Inspiring people I get to work with, I feel so lucky. I love seeing how absolutely hooked fans of the show are too! Sullivan’s just keeps getting better.

What was it like working with the rest of the cast on set?

Whenever I’m asked this I always want to talk about everyone…so I will! I love this cast. Andrea Menard is wonderful to work with. I love making her laugh and hanging with her. She cracks me up too! Tom Jackson, what a presence. So kind hearted, and he is a blast to be around when his jokester-mischievous side comes out. My tv sister Lindura is like having another heart on that set. Just love working with her, and getting to hang. I think we make each other better on screen and I love that, such a wonderful scene partner. Morgan Kohan is such an amazing lead, and so fun to be around. She truly inspires me, her work ethic and ability to perform is second to none in my eyes. She’s truly special. Amalia Williamson is so sweet and funny, and a great painter I’ve discovered! Dakota Taylor is the dude, love hanging with him on set and shooting the breeze. Lauren Hammersley has the best laugh! I love bugging my tv son Zayn Maloney, and talking video games on set. We’re both experts, ha. I’m happy I got to film more with Chad Michael Murray in season two, as our characters both relate because they’ve lost their wives, and bonus, he’s great to work with. He’s always ready to rock the scene and help elevate the show. I have lots of acting questions for him and he does a perfect job of giving great answers with just the right amount of advice. I’m definitely better thanks to him. So nice to also get to talk about the world with a guy like Chad and get to know him and his beautiful family. Okay, I can’t keep going on about more cast because I already feel bad about leaving some out, and I can’t go on forever. I just love these people. So many laughs, and smiles on set. The team that brought us all together…hats off to them!

What was your favorite scene or moment while filming Sullivan’s Crossing season 2?

Oh, lots of favourites, but I’d have to say my definite favourite scenes were axe throwing! Hope we do that again. Fav moment…hmmm, alright, this is corny, but just showing up to work. Those are many moments, but just saying hi to our Trailer AD Carol, usually first thing in the morning; she’s the best.

At Survived the Shows, we are big fans of Christmas comedies. What is your all-time favorite?

Love this about Survived the Shows! I love comedies in general, and Christmas comedies are the best! Definitely love National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, A Christmas Story, and Bad Santa to name a few top shelf choices, but my favourite of all time is definitely…Home Alone. I still belly laugh watching that movie, and the sound track from John Williams has had my whole heart from day one. Side note, and fight me if you want, but my second favourite Christmas comedy is…Gremlins! 🙂

Change of subject, What have been some of the most memorable projects you have worked on throughout your career, and why?

Loved being on season 4 of “The Sinner”. I played a lead detective who was adversarial to the show’s lead played by the masterful Bill Pullman, and I just had a blast getting to work with him. He is the kindest, nicest man. Also working on the show, “From” has been great. Season 3 wrapped recently, and that show brings the scary, creepy, “what the heck is going on and how am I gonna get to sleep tonight” heat! “From” lead, Harold Perrineau, also the nicest, kindest man. What a pleasure getting to know him and best of all, getting to crack him up. Had him rolling a couple times. It’s what I do best when I’m around my kinda people. Love a good laugher! Also, I fondly remember great times way back when none of my friends knew what we were doing and we made the most indie series of all time, “Rare Breed” where I played one half of a leading duo, a couple of delusional, small-town, best-bud rappers. All improvised, no script just beat sheets. We had so much fun and we made something really funny on a zero dollar budget. Still proud of us for that. Also, can’t forget where it all started…grade 5, “Goofus and the Golden Goose” – yours truly played Goofus.

Can you tease something about your next projects?

Thank goodness I have some projects to tell you about. I stay busy with many things in and outside of film and acting, but sometimes as actors we’re steady twiddling our thumbs while we wait, hope, wish, and pray for the next thing! Haha. I laugh, but no, seriously…

As for next projects, earlier this year I filmed a movie called, “Dancing on the Elephant” which takes place in a nursing home, and is led by Mary Walsh, Sheila McCarthy and Amanda Brugel. I play a newly hired nurse trying to sort out the ups and downs of life at the “fox farm”. It’s gonna have a lot of heart, and a lot of laughs. Really looking forward to seeing it, and had a great time working with everyone.

Speaking of Christmas comedies, I recently filmed a Hallmark Christmas movie also with lots of laughs. I played a goofy, big hearted, fun practical joker. It’s called…oh, I don’t think I can say what it’s called yet. When I know for sure I’ll give Survived the Shows an update! It was a blast to shoot and should be out later this year, in plenty of time for Christmas 2024, but for now it’s time to enjoy some July summer sun. Even more importantly, I’m looking forward to filming Sullivan’s Crossing season 3 soon!
