We at Survived The Shows had the incredible chance to talk with star Sherilyn Allen, who teased the movie and her experience in I thought my Husband’s Wife was Dead. Check out the full interview below!
Can you tell us a bit about your character in I thought my Husband’s Wife was Dead ?
Layla Knight ( Lola Winters) is the picture of perfection but she has her own personal struggles. She’s a self- assure woman who knows what she want and how to get. From the outside looking in, her life is seemingly perfect. And there’s quite an endearing sweetness about her, but that characteristic is stacked on top of a touch of egotism and narcissistic qualities. The complexities that make up her personality is what drives me in this movie.
What initially attracted you to your role in I thought my Husband’s Wife was Dead?
It was exciting to play someone who was the exact opposite of who am I. Becoming this complex character was challenging because she had so many layers, and motivations throughout. In order to play Lola, I had to tap into foreign territories. I’ll just say she lives her life on the boarder of extremes.
What do you think makes this movie so special and captivating?
It is a compelling story. The movie is the adaptation of the best selling book Unmissing by Minka Kent. My character’s life is taken on a rollercoaster when my husband’s ex wife shows up at my door. This event is the beginning of the unraveling oh my perfect world. There are so many twists and turns. You think things are going one way and then the story is turned on it’s head and takes a complete 180.
There is something for everyone; drama, comedy and many teachable moments. And the story moves at a very fast pace, but it is not a movie that you can just sum up in the first 15 minutes. You need to be invested until the end.
What do you hope audiences take away from watching I thought my Husband’s Wife was Dead ?
There are many things the audience will be able to take away from this movie, so many teachable moments. But one point that is clear is never count the underdog out.
What was it like working with the rest of the cast on set?
Working with this cast and crew was so special to me. My experience on set was nothing short of amazing. We were a team, a family in a sense. Everyone did their part and I felt right at home.
What can you tease about your character Journey?
Where do I begin. I won’t reveal too much but I will say that for my character, things aren’t always what they seem. I go through a metamorphosis throughout the movie. My goals take a dramatic shift which essentially changes the fabric of who I am.
What was your favorite scene or moment while filming I thought my Husband’s Wife was Dead ?
It was fun to kick a little ass. I haven’t done much action or stunts up until now and it was so cool working with the stunt team and crew to actualize the badass side of Lola.
Change of subject, What have been some of the most memorable projects you have worked on throughout your career, and why?
There are so many. However the one that sticks out to me would have to be my first series appearance on Girlfriends Guide To Divorce. I had just moved to Vancouver and had no idea what I was to going to do. So when I booked the role and got to work with Neckar Zadegan and Paul Adelstein it was life changing. It was a small role but so significant and meaningful. And of course, playing Courtney on the tv show Coroner was pretty epic as well. But honestly, all my roles have been special to me.
At Survived the Shows, we are big fans of Christmas rom-coms. What is your all-time favorite?
Love Actually and The Holiday are my two favorites. I think I’ve watched them both a thousand times already. But there are so many more. I’m a huge fan of the rom- com genre. Lol.
Can you tease something about your next projects?
Besides more movies, I’m currently working on a studio album set to release in the fall. I’m very excited about that.
