Daddy’s Deadly Secret will premiere on Lifetime Movie Network on May 30th. We at Survived The Shows had the pleasure of chatting with star Steve Byers, who portrays Richard, about his experience on LMN’s Daddy’s Deadly Secret and a lot more.
Can you tell us a bit about your character in Daddy’s Deadly Secret?
Sure! Richard is a family man who really loves and cherishes his wife (played by Sarah Allen) and only daughter (played by Maya Misaljevic). His daughter was conceived with his first wife (played by Andrea Grant) Richard really hopes to extend the family sooner rather than later with his now wife Caroline. He has a great relationship with his ex-wife and believes that co-parenting is the best way forward for their daughter Abigail.
What initially attracted you to your role in Daddy’s Deadly Secret?
Sarah and I have worked together before ( as love interests on a TV series “Remedy”) That made it super easy to agree to, and Sean Cisterna (Director) and I had worked together a million years ago so it was great to reunite and commiserate about old times.
What do you think makes this movie so special and captivating?
This movie is a wild ride. There are so many twists and turns that I can guarantee most people won’t see what’s coming. I won’t lie, I had to re-read the script the first time I was given it to make sure I read it correctly. I think this is going to blow some minds.
What do you hope audiences take away from watching Daddy’s Deadly Secret?
I just really hope that people walk away from this saying “I can’t believe it!”…if they don’t, they lied…. but more importantly, I hope that they were entertained.
What was it like working with the rest of the cast on set?
As I mentioned it was somewhat of a reunion also including Ferelith Young who I’d also worked with in the past. The rest of the cast and crew were fantastic and an absolute pleasure to work with. Andrea Grant and I found out part way through filming that I had just played the brother of her boyfriend Dan (who is almost as funny as she is 😉 ) on another show called One More Time. This business is such a small world.
What can you tease about your character Journey?
I’m afraid to pull the thread out of this sweater by saying too much but I can tell you that Richard finds out things about everyone and I mean EVERYONE in this movie that rock his world to the core.
What was your favorite scene or moment while filming Daddy’s Deadly Secret?
I think the best part of making this one was the behind the scenes laughs we all had. From the cast to the crew, everyone was great and they managed to put up with my infantile sense of humor and antics.
At Survived the Shows, we are big fans of Christmas comedies. What is your all-time favorite?
Elf, hands down.
Change of subject, What have been some of the most memorable projects you have worked on throughout your career, and why?
I’ve been very lucky to have worked on a vast array of projects in so many genres. I love my job but some of my favorite ones have been where the people worked were fun, funny and kind. Series like Falcon Beach, Slasher and Wild Roses where filming was over an extended period of time, create a real family experience that is unlike anything else. While movies like Daddy’s Deadly Secret tend to be shot in a much shorter period of time, bonding happens really quickly and it’s always tough to say goodbye. I do love playing the bad guy so my run on Smallville and Reel One’s Amish Abduction stand out in my mind as favorites too.
Can you tease something about your next projects?
I just finished up on Netflix’s THE MADNESS starring Colman Domingo which is another project where my character is “not someone you want to bring home to your parents”. Let’s preface it by saying, his views do not match my own in ANY way 😉
