Can you tell us a bit about your character in Return to Sender?

My character’s name in Return to Sender is Brittany and she is a very bubbly, outgoing, friendly, kind of carefree, free-spirited character. I don’t know if it was accidental actually, but I kind of came in character today because she wears a lot of pink. That was kind of a joke that is that she wears pink in every scene because she just likes pink. And she loves her best friend Meg and she encourages Meg to get out of her comfort zone and tells her to take those leaps of faith and jump in and dive in headfirst. So she definitely gives her friend advice and thinks that she has the right idea. And she, in a lot of ways I found, did because she’s just carefree and she’s not the type of character to get stressed over the small stuff.

What initially attracted you to your role in Return to Sender?

Initially I saw our director, Heather Hawthorne Doyle, on the breakdown for the audition. And I love Heather and any time I get an opportunity to potentially work for her, I work extra hard to book that job. Because I’ve worked with Heather for years now. I think our first time working together was, I want to say, maybe a decade ago or a little under a decade ago on my first show. And then we did a movie together a few years later. And so I just love working with directors that I feel like I trust and I feel like I’m in safe hands.

She really brings out the best in everybody’s performances and lets you play within things, but also gives you really solid and direct notes. So you just feel like you’re in a good place when you’re working with her.

So that was the first thing that drew me to the project. And then I got the opportunity to read the script, which was so fun. I love rom-coms. I just do. It’s a rom-com mystery, which I had never been able to audition for. And everybody was calling it a rom-a-miss, a new genre of rom-miss. I loved that all the characters were so strong and that it was such an ensemble cast. I love when I see an ensemble movie that has six main characters in it and you get to follow all these different plot lines. So that’s really what drew me to this project.
