Stakiah Lynn Washington, Terayle Hill and Christie Leverette star in Killer Beat, a new, original movie premiered Thursday June 27th on Tubi Channel. We at Survived the Shows had the incredible chance to speak with star Maurice Johnson, who teased Tubi’s Killer Beat and his experience in the movie. Check out the full interview in the video below!
Can you tell us a bit about your character in Killer Beat?
I am Mister Tank. So I am the executive record producer. In my backstory, I actually was a prizefighter. I actually was a boxer. So if you see in the backdrop of my office, you’ll see boxing gloves and all of the dignitaries that I knew. But, yes, I’m basically like a record executive, you know, for a very large company.
What initially attracted you to your role in Killer Beat?
Well, I loved being a young artist, a young hip hop artist, a story about a young hip hop artist, you know, trying to grow and find this, you know, get the one chance. And she grew viral. And so I thought it just definitely spoke to present day because everybody’s into TikTok, they’re into hip hop, and also just a young artist. I wanted to definitely hone into those, into that role, just like a record exec would. So, of course, I use some people, like Suge Knight or P. Diddy, to actually gain some of my backstory and give me a little bit of an impetus for this character.
