EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Ty Trumbo Previews LMN’s Dying for Fame!

Share:

Lifetime Movie Network ‘s movie “Dying for Fame”, is all set to premiere on the channel on Friday, January 4, 2023 at 8/7c. Let’s take a first look! We at Survived The Shows had the pleasure of chatting with Ty Trumbo, about his experience on the movie “Dying for Fame” and a lot more.

Can you tell us a bit about your character in Dying for Fame?

I play Holden, an incel – a term I had never heard of before. It means “Involuntarily Celebate” and represents a growing number of guys who consider themselves unable to attract women romantically. Mostly they suffer from extreme isolation, mental health issues, resentment toward women who reject them and men who make them feel insecure. Holden is no exception. Like a lot of incels, Holden finds support on online forums and echo chambers of dissatisfied guys. From there, he develops an extreme obsession with a social media influencer, Juliet and will stop at nothing to express his love to her.

What initially attracted you to your role in Dying for Fame?

Typically I audition for and play traditional leading roles. Characters who are confident, privileged, popular. Holden could not be more opposite of that – it’s a complex, character role with a lot of different levels. That’s what attracted me. Not to mention all of his contradictions – he’s frightening, but fragile, scary, but sensitive. So it was a wonderful chance to dive in and play someone different and challenging.

What do you think makes this movie so special and captivating?

It’s very current. It’s a classic “who done it” Lifetime thriller with sensational turns, but it’s executed in a fresh, modern context with social media influencers, digital stalking, incels, and all of the things we deal with today.

What do you hope audiences take away from watching Dying for Fame?

I hope they’re entertained, that’s number one. If there is a takeaway beyond that – without a sense of balance, social media will make you do crazy things…

What was it like working with the rest of the cast on set?

Working with the cast was easy and collaborative. I have to give a special shoutout to our Director, David Benullo, who has directed more Lifetime movies than I can count. He was probably my favorite person to work with.  He really knows how to speak to actors, by that I mean, he offers notes that you can actually play without ever over-talking the scene. I loved his style and was genuinely impressed with what he was able to do with the final project. There’s a scene where Holden falls down a staircase and we used a dummy dressed as me. When we were on set I had my doubts if it would play, but somehow David knew what he was doing and made it look real.

What can you tease about your character Journey?

Stalking never ends well, both for the “stalkee” as well as the stalker…

What was your favorite scene or moment while filming Dying for Fame?

My favorite scene is when I approach Anna, played by Dylan Rayne, to tell her that not only am I now the victim of a stalker myself, but that I believe Juliet was murdered. We filmed it on my first day and it was fun to jump into the character right from the top and really let it fly.

Can you tell us about any challenges you faced while filming Dying for Fame and how you overcame them?

A lot of people don’t realize that when you’re shooting for Lifetime, you’re filming a movie in 10-14 days tops. There’s no rehearsal time, sometimes you’re filming at 3 a.m. and even then, there’s only a couple takes before you move on. The only way to overcome that is to do your work ahead of time, come prepared, and be ready for anything.

Change of subject, What have been some of the most memorable projects you have worked on throughout your career, and why?

MR. STUDENT BODY PRESIDENT. It was my first series regular job on a TV series. Not only was it successful here, but it did very well overseas, particularly in the United Kingdom. Going to set everyday, playing a fun comedic character, working with some people who would become great friends – it was a rare and wonderful experience.

Can you tease something about your next project?

Before the industry strikes, I Guest-Starred on a new HBO pilot, produced by J.J. Abrahms, called DUSTER. I won’t say too much about that character but I can promise the show is one you won’t want to miss. I also have a Revolutionary War movie where I played a British Aristocrat called THE BATTLE OF BUSHY RUN which was shot in Atlanta and is scheduled to come out soon.

‘Dying for Fame’ with Ty Trumbo premiered on Thursday, January 4th on Lifetime Movie Network.
