Veronica Ramirez and Luke Charles Stafford star in “Road Trip Hostage” a new, original movie premiering Saturday, April 29 (8 p.m. ET/PT), on Lifetime. We at Survived The Shows had the pleasure of chatting with star Veronica Ramirez about her experience in the making of the movie and what fans can expect. Check out the full interview below!

Can you describe your character’s journey throughout the movie and how she transforms over the course of the story?
In the story I think Emma begins really doubtful of herself, both in dance and life. She relies on other people in her life like her Mom or best friend Rachel to help her make decisions or for validation. Although she knows what she wants she’s fearful to commit and doesn’t really believe in herself until she is given a chance.
I think you can see that in how she deals with being taken by Rick, she’s scared to make the wrong move or failing to escape which is why she lets so many opportunities pass. But as the story progresses and she starts to develop more sense of self, her strength and potential, what she wants out of life and the life she wants to get back to, she gains that fight to battle for her life and her freedom. By the end of the story she knows exactly what she is capable of and takes back the control over her. And I definitely feel she has a sense of pride for all she has accomplished and been through.
If you had to describe Emma using only emojis, which ones would you choose?
I would choose these emojis to describe Emma: 🥰🌷💫🩰😈
If you could switch roles with any character in “Road Trip Hostage” who would it be and why?
If I could switch characters with anyone in “Road Trip Hostage” I know I wouldn’t want to be in Rick’s stressful position haha. I think I would like to switch roles with detective Ramirez, because she gets to bring a family back together and she seems like a very determined and compassionate person. I would love to play a strong female hero like that.
What’s the weirdest thing that happened on set while filming “Road Trip Hostage”?
I don’t know if there was anything overly “weird” that happened on set, but the amount of locations we used was definitely a shock to me. We were at a different location almost every day of the shoot and that was something I’ve never experienced working on a project before. It did give an extra sense of excitement each day.

What did you enjoy most about working with your co-stars on the film?
I loved working with each of my co-stars on Road Trip Hostage! Everyone was so welcoming and nice, it was really lovely to work in a community of people who all wanted to make a great movie and showed up everyday giving their best. Also working with Lukas was really great, he had a strong sense of who he wanted Rick to be and gave him a sense of humanity, which allowed me as Emma to have more of an aspect of confusion about him.

What do you think is the most important message viewers can take away from the movie?
I think the most important message to take away is to not be scared of life. Whether that’s taking risks in your career, relationships or in general. You should chase your happiness and take control of your life and not let others dictate how you should live or push you around for their benefit.
What do you hope audiences take away from the film, both in terms of entertainment and deeper themes?
I really hope the audience enjoys the film as much as we liked working on it. Like I mentioned before, I hope it gives people motivation to take their own risks. Fear of failure is a prominent theme throughout the movie, there are moments where Emma might have been able to escape, but she was fearful of what would happen if she failed. And I think that’s what held her back from leaving school for dance for so long, fear of not succeeding. I hope one of the messages the audience resonates with is that we should always follow our instincts and what we believe is best for us and if we take control of what we want out of life success will follow.

What do you think makes “Road Trip Hostage” unique among other thriller movies?
I think Road Trip Hostage brings a lot of unique elements to the table. There is a strong sense of family and relationships throughout the story that I hope the audience can connect with. Also I think something different is that Emma doesn’t let panic take over her when the moment comes. She is very smart in playing out her dangerous situation and her being a very compassionate person allows her to try to connect with her captor, rather than immediately fight back. Overall it’s a movie that’s filled with thrills, vulnerability and many twists and turns and I hope everyone enjoys it!
