Chicago PD teases promotions and ‘new titles’ for characters

Chicago PD characters are up for big changes: not only is Halstead leaving, but our beloved characters will have a few important promotions – and a new Chief!

Showrunner on Halstead's exit and a future without him on Chicago PD 10

PD showrunner Gwen Sigan recently sat down with NBC to discuss season 10, and she noted that many of the veteran characters will be getting a promotion.

Sigan talked about a few promotions

Sigan said that characters like Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins), Adam Ruzek (Patrick Flueger) and Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) have maintained the same rank of for several years now. The writers have considered making a change and pushing them up to detective.

“We definitely playing with [the idea]”, Sigan noted. “We haven’t figured out exactly what we plan on doing with it, but it’s something that’s been there for years. I would love to see some movement there and get to see some detective badges come in.”

Halstead being gone will definitely add to the workload of the rest of the IU, so it would make sense that they would be rewarded with a promotion. He currently holds the rank of detective, so his spot will need to be filled.

Who’s the new Chief?

While he may seem like a new character, Patrick O’Neal is actually someone that was established early on in Chicago PD. He made a brief appearance in the season 2 episode “Prison Ball”, when he still had the rank of narcotics officer. His behavior towards Voight makes it clear that he’s worked next to the officer for decades. They have a mutual respect for one another, even if their approaches seem to be fundamentally different.

Which characters do you think will get promotions on Chicago PD season 10?
