EXCLUSIVE: Director Peter Sullivan Teases Upcoming ‘Romance during Holidays’ on Hallmark’s A Cozy Christmas Inn! – WATCH INTERVIEW

Jodie Sweetin and David O’Donnell star in “A Cozy Christmas Inn,” a new, original movie premiering Friday, October 28 on Hallmark Channel. We at Survived The Shows had the pleasure of chatting with Peter Sullivan about his experience in the making of A Cozy Christmas Inn and what fans can expect from the movie. Check out full interview in the video below!

What’s the main element in the characters and the movie in general that fascinates you the most and drew you to join A Cozy Christmas Inn?

PETER SULLIVAN: Well, it is a continuation of a film that we did a couple of years ago called “Christmas Under Wraps”. And I’ve wanted to revisit the town of Garland, which is what we’ve set up in [Christmas] Under Wraps. You go back and kind of check in with everybody and see how they’ve been doing.

[…] We have a new protagonist, but we get to check in with a lot of our old friends and some of the old locations. And it’s kind of like a ‘you’re going home again, if you will’, you know? So I was just excited by the idea of kind of checking in with these people five or six years later to see what what’s been going on, how holiday shipping is going and obviously Santa Claus, you know, it’s secret, toy company and all that. So that would primarily be why I was excited to do this.

What’s been the biggest challenge for you in directing this movie?

I could tell you one of the interesting thing about it, it was for the first time we’re actually shooting a Christmas movie at Christmas time. And we were shooting in a really tiny town in a new car, the pandemic going on at the time. But you know, we were still very much aware of it and we knew we needed to be careful. We took up a two-size form whatever and what we ended up doing was kicking over this hotel where we literally get haircuts and crew stayed there. We controlled the whole hotel, everybody there with the production and we also filmed a lot of the movie.

So, you know, we kind of stayed in this little bubble, but about halfway through the shoot, there was a significant snowfall and so in a crowd temperature dropped rapidly. We went from shooting with a nice weather and 5055 degrees out to 25 and shooting in falling snow and and quickly having to pivot and change our schedule at the moment. Notice both to take advantage of the snowfall and then also to keep Catherine comfortable when the cold got too much. So it was really dealing with a new climate for me that made this one, you know, from production standpoint, unique. For the first time, the snow is real.

To all the fans looking forward to watching the movie, how would you describe A cozy Christmas Inn in like 3 words?

Romance during holidays.

If you could choose a character from A cozy Christmas Inn that you would have loved to play, which one would it be and why?

I think I would choose the character played by Vivica Fox because it’s such a fun role. She is a sort of self-absorbed business person who is just all about the deal and it fits. You just had so much fun with it and we have Jodie and David boom in the heart and you know Vivica providing the pressure for Jodie, but she’s just having so much fun, you know, being that delicious. You know, a Miranda Priestly kind of high-powered woman, business, tycoon.

I just think that would be a lot of fun to play something like that because that’s not at all who I am. I would love to, you know. If I were looking at what would be interesting, it would be to play somebody would least like me. And I just saw how much fun she was having and she just came up with so many little moments and it’s just a lot of fun.
