EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Maria Meadows Teases ‘Family, Acceptance & Whimsical’ on A Magical Christmas Village!

On November 13, a new original Christmas movie starring Alison Sweeney and Luke Macfarlane, which is entitled A Magical Christmas Village, is premiering on Hallmark Channel. We at Survived The Shows had the pleasure of chatting with Maria Meadows about her experience on Hallmark’s A Magical Christmas Village and what fans can expect from the movie. Check out full interview below!

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Maria Meadows Breaks Down Her Experience as April on A Magical Christmas Village!

What’s the main element in April’s character and the movie in general that fascinates you the most and drew you to join A Magical Christmas Village?

MARIA MEADOWS: I was drawn to April the moment I read her character description. ‘Sweet and wry’ with a deep love for her family. Family plays a very important role in the movie and I appreciate the genuine and real approach taken by our writer, Melissa Salmons.

Where are you and April most similar and where most different as human beings?

MEADOWS: Most similar –  I would say that April has playful nature that I found enjoyable to portray. This especially comes to light when interacting with her sister, Summer.

Most different – Hair. I never straighten my hair so it was always a bit of a shock looking in the mirror.

What’s been the biggest challenge for you in portraying April?

MEADOWS: The biggest challenge was the heat! We shot the movie in the middle of August through a full on heat wave. Jackets, wool sweaters, scarves, gloves and hats make for an interesting combination in the summer sun.

To all the fans looking forward to watching the movie, how would you describe A Magical Christmas Village in just 3 words?

MEADOWS: Hmmm…Can I use Magical, Christmas and Village? I would say :

What can you tease about April’s journey throughout the movie?

MEADOWS: April and Summer have a very unique relationship. They are sisters but also very close friends. Summer, the older sister, assumed a lot of the responsibilities after their father passed away. Over the course of the movie April gets to see a side of Summer that has been kept behind doors and they have the opportunity to really be there to support each other.

Talking about the environment on set, how would you describe your experience while filming A Magical Christmas Village and do you have any fun anecdotes to share?

MEADOWS: I loved working on this film. The cast and crew formed an amazing team and we all had great chemistry. I do have a fun, little-known fact about the actor who played my oldest son, Wyatt. I have known Lennox Leacock (Wyatt) since the day he was born! I am very close friends with his parents and I actually used to babysit him. It was a blast to work with him and a real treat to have him play my angsty teenage son.

If you could choose any other character from A Magical Christmas Village, apart from April, that you would have loved to play, which one would it be and why?

MEADOWS: I’d love to one day play a character like Vivian. Marlo Thomas bought such beautiful energy and life to her character. One can only dream to fill shoes like that.

Did you take anything from set, any prop or piece of costume, to remember your experience as April?

MEADOWS: I swear it wasn’t on purpose but on my last day on set I did accidentally take home April’s socks! It was quite late and I was tired, an honest mistake. They are cozy so I’m sure they will come out for Christmas!
