EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW – Sophia Powers Discusses “Uplifting, heartwarming & funny” Story on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries’ Unexpected Grace!

Erica DuranceMichael Rady and Erica Tremblay star in “Unexpected Grace,” a new original which premiered Sunday, March 12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. We at Survived The Shows had the pleasure of chatting with Sophia Powers about her experience in the making of the movie and what fans can expect. Check out the full interview below!

What’s the main element in Toni’s character and the movie in general that fascinates you the most and drew you to join Unexpected Grace?

SOPHIA POWERS: I think that Toni is such an interesting and fun character. She is such an old soul but she can also just have fun and be goofy. I really love seeing Toni’s amazing relationship with her mom. It’s so sweet and wholesome.

Where are you and Toni most similar and where most different as human beings?

I would like to think I’m an old soul. I also have a really close relationship with my parents.

What’s been the biggest challenge for you in portraying Toni?

I think a lot of it was just making sure that I was portraying the strong relationship with Toni and her mom in the smaller amounts of time I had because that relationship is what drives a lot a of what my mom does later in the movie.

To all the fans looking forward to watching the movie, how would you describe Unexpected Grace in just 3 words?

Uplifting, heartwarming, funny.

What can you tease about Toni’s journey throughout the movie?

Her journey is impactful.

Talking about the environment on set, how would you describe your experience while filming Unexpected Grace and do you have any fun anecdotes to share?

Everyone was so sweet and welcoming. It was such a fun day of filming. At lunch Erica who plays my mom, myself and a few of the hair and makeup crew had a great discussion about books and movies, it was really nice having that time with everyone and getting to know them better.

If you could choose any other character from Unexpected Grace, apart from Toni, that you would have loved to play, which one would it be and why?

I think it would be a blast to play Grace.

Did you take anything from set, any prop or piece of costume, to remember your experience as Toni?

I didn’t! I realized after work that I didn’t take any moments and I was so bummed. I wish I took a penny or the balloon. You’ll have to watch to see what I’m talking about.

Talking about another your projects, what’s the main element in the show Son a Critch that fascinates you the most?

I think it’s a show with so many great lessons and so many heartwarming moments.

What can you tease about Fox’s journey throughout Season 2?

You see her grow and learn more. You see more of who she is and why she does things, as well as how deep her love goes for the people she cares about.

Throwing back to the origins of your career, how did the passion for acting come about in your life?

I just remember always wanting to be an actor. When I finally booked my first role. I realized just how much I loved the storytelling and experiences it can bring to my life. It has kept drawing me in ever since.
