Jon Bernthal Is Returning as The Punisher for Daredevil: Born Again

Jon Bernthal is to reprise his role as Frank Castle/The Punisher in Disney+‘s upcoming Daredevil: Born Again.

He will join fellow Netflix Marvel alums Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio when production begins in New York later this month, according to THR.

Jon Bernthal Is Returning as The Punisher for ‘Daredevil: Born Again’

It serves as a spiritual successor to the Netflix Daredevil series, where The Punisher spin-off series also spun off starring Berenthal. Born Again takes its name from a landmark Daredevil story by Frank Miller and David Mazzuchelli in 1986. But the show will not follow the source material closely.

For example, The Punisher did not appear in the original source material. And some of the storylines played out in the final season of the Netflix series. What’s in store for the series and any plot details remain unknown.

On Daredevil: Born Again

In January 2021, Marvel boss Kevin Feige considered the characters to still exist in some capacity, and by the end of the year, Cox cameoed as Daredevil in Spider-Man: No Way Home and later in the She-Hulk series. D’Onofrio appeared in Hawkeye, and he and Cox are expected to play a role in the upcoming Echo series, which is set to spin Born Again off.

Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson, who played classic supporting characters Karen Page and Foggy Nelson, respectively, are not expected to return.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW – Veronica Burgess Teases Ida’s Journey on The Company You Keep Episode 4! – WATCH

We at Survived The Shows had the pleasure of chatting with Veronica Burgess about her experience on The Company You Keep and what fans can expect. Check out the full interview in the video below!

What’s the main element in Ida’s character and show in general that fascinates you the most and drew you to join The Company You Keep?

VERONICA BURGESS: Well, I have always been a huge fan of Milo Ventimiglia, as I’m sure many people listening to this are. I just think he’s so charismatic and he’s such a great actor. And so when I got the audition from my manager, I was like, ‘Oh, this will be awesome because I’ll have scenes with him’, and so I threw it down. Sometimes with auditions, you immediately know what you want to do, and other times you kind of have to take a little bit of time to figure it out.

But with Ida, I knew exactly how I wanted to play it because the show is a spy drama of sorts. I was like, ‘OK, so like everybody in this world has to have a little mystery about them’. So that’s what really drew me to this character. It’s fun that I get to play somebody with a little bit of mystery behind her and she’s sort of like the books girl to this underground gambling ring boss. And it was really great to work with Daniel Sunjata who plays the underground gambling ring boss. He’s fantastic and just the whole cast and crew were amazing.

Veronica Burgess

For all the people that haven’t watched the show yet, how would you describe The Company You Keep in just 3 words?

Super, sexy, fun.

I’ve been watching it because I’m like, ‘OK, I wanna see what it’s all about. And I’m one of those people that like to watch my work just to see how it comes out, because what’s written is always different than what’s shot, that’s always different than what’s edited. So it’s interesting to see that whole process.

What can you tease about Ida’s journey in Episode 4?

She’s got her hands in every aspect of the operation but she is kind of more of a behind the scenes character. I think that with every organization, whether it’s legal or illegal, there’s always that kind of person that’s like on the fringes, but they’re very much a part of what’s going on here.

Acting-wise, what’s been for you the biggest challenge in portraying Ida?

It’s easy to fall into the trap when you’re playing these characters that are in a few scenes. You’re like, ‘OK, I only have like a few scenes. I got to show all my cards’ and it’s like, ‘Well, but people don’t really do that in real life. You see, if you go to lunch with somebody, you’re going to see one side of that person. And then if you see that same person at work, you’re probably going to see a different side of that person. So just being secure enough in myself and knowing that I know the character enough to right in this moment, this is what’s happening. And I’m not gonna just try to lay everything else out there because it’s not relevant in this particular moment. Your job is to be this person in this moment and carry on the scene.

If you could choose any other character from The Company You Keep, apart from Ida, you would have loved to play, which one would it be and why?

Daphne. She’s awesome. She is gorgeous and smart and all her wheels are always turning and she’s essentially the brains behind the whole Maguire Operation right now. She’s trying to prove herself, but she doesn’t even need to because she’s such a badass. She also has that funny little OCDness about her. Like remember that part in Episode 2 where she was like adjusted the perfume bottles or whatever it was and I was like, ‘oh, this girl’s OCD’.

First look at ‘Matlock’ Revival with Skye P. Marshall and Kathy Bates

The upcoming CBS pilot Matlock has cast East New York star Skye P. Marshall in a lead role opposite Kathy Bates for a modern take on the classic legal drama.

First look at ‘Matlock’ Revival with Skye P. Marshall and Kathy Bates
Cast

Marshall will play Olympia, a formidable attorney with a thirst for justice and a key rainmaker at New York’s most prestigious law firm. As she juggles her work and home life, Olympia remains laser-focused and not easily impressed, which becomes apparent when she’s tasked with overseeing a third junior associate.

The revival, which comes from Jane the Virgin creator Jennie Snyder Urman and NCIS: Los Angeles star Eric Christian Olsen, revolves around Madeline Matlock (Bates), a brilliant septuagenarian who rejoins the world of law where she uses her unassuming demeanor and wily tactics to win cases and expose corruption from within.

Matlock, created by Dean Hargrove, originally premiered in 1986 on NBC and aired for nine seasons, ending its run in 1995 on ABC. It starred Andy Griffith in the lead role and became a huge hit and today is regarded as one of television’s most iconic crime dramas.

In addition to her starring role, Bates will also executive produce the pilot alongside Snyder Urman and Joanna Klein of Sutton Street and Olsen and John Will of Cloud Nine.

David Del Rio and Leah Lewis have been cast as series regulars

Del Rio plays Billy, a charismatic young associate a few years out of law school and assigned to work on one of the firm’s biggest cases. He helps Matty navigate her new work environment as he seemingly knows more than he should.

Lewis plays Sarah, a junior associate eager to get ahead and not worried about being liked. Sarah is all ambition, determined to be seen for her smarts and willing to do anything to move up a peg at the firm. She is not pleased when she’s forced to work alongside Matty, lowering her position at the company even further.

How I Met Your Father Flashes Back to Hilary Duff ‘s Lizzie McGuire Past!

When Ellen (Tien Tran) is missing Rachel (Aby James) on Valentine’s Day, her friends try to cheer her up by sharing stories of their worst experiences on the holiday, and in doing so, How I Met Your Father flashes back to Hilary Duff ‘s Lizzie McGuire past!

“You know what, we do what we can and everybody here is on board to do what we can to let Lizzie live on,” Duff laughed.

[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for How I Met Your Father Season 2 Episode 7 “A Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Valentine’s Day.”]

How I Met Your Father Flashes Back to Hilary Duff ‘s Lizzie McGuire Past!

Using the footage from the Disney Channel series (the episode “First Kiss”) “came from the writers room,” executive producer Elizabeth Berger tells TV Insider. “We texted Hilary immediately and were like, how do you feel about this? And she is so cool and so game and, as long as it’s funny, she’s on board and it took her all of five seconds to be like, yes, absolutely. I think we all just thought it was a really fun nod to all the Lizzie fans out there and also just sort of fit in with our story seamlessly.”

This, executive producer Isaac Aptaker, adds, gave them an excuse to go through old episodes of Lizzie McGuire. “I grew up with [it] but hadn’t seen [it] in forever,” he shares. “It was so much fun to find the perfect moment and watch little Hilary act her face off.” They ultimately chose the scene to use from one of several from the show’s Valentine’s Day episode.

“It’s amazing how much drama they pack into 22 minutes of Lizzie McGuire. It’s like she gets her heart broken, then her best friend’s in love with her, and then she’s sobbing on the phone and then she’s talking to her best friend. There’s a lot of juicy stuff in those,” Aptaker adds.

It’s also in “A Terrible, Horrible. No Good, Very Bad Valentine’s Day” that Future Sophie (Kim Cattrall) says the Father has a soft spot for the romantic holiday.

We then see Drew (Josh Peck), Charlie (Tom Ainsley). Sid (Suraj Sharma), Jesse (Christopher Lowell), and Ian (Daniel Augustin) — in a scene we have yet to see. Talking about it, keeping them all as candidates.

“The really key thing to point out from that sequence is yes, [all of that]. But also we’re seeing her in a moment with Ian that we’ve never seen where they sort of appear to be in some type of restaurant date situation together in a future Valentine’s Day. Aptaker says. “So I think that’s the one that’s really the totally new piece of information. That perhaps there’s more to that story and that love story left to tell.”

Given that Season 2 has already aired its Valentine’s Day episode, he continues, that will be further down the line. So yes, that rules out any big time jumps.

And so we may still have no idea who The Father is, but hey, at least we got some Lizzie McGuire
